16x40 Oil on Canvas
There is a profound sense of relief that comes with standing atop the Marin Headlands. Whenever I visit Rodeo Beach, I feel the world finally open up—it’s a place where I can truly breathe again. Coastal Bloom is my attempt to bottle that feeling of expansive freedom.
This large-scale panoramic work captures the rugged cliffs blanketed in vibrant green grass and the sudden, joyful burst of wildflowers in spring. Using a combination of brushes and palette knives, I applied the paint in thick, impasto layers to mimic the wild textures of the Northern California coast. The 16x40 format mirrors the vastness of the horizon, leading the eye from the delicate blooms in the foreground out toward the infinite meeting point of the Pacific water and sky.
To me, this painting represents more than a view; it is the physical sensation of the salty air and the quiet power of the headlands.
